"Waaah! Disney ripped off Kimba the White Lion to make The Lion King!"
"No, they ripped off Hamlet for that!"
"And they ripped off The Iron Giant to make Lilo & Stitch!"
"And A Bug's Life is a ripoff of The Three Amigos!"

Oh, do shut up. You all seem to have uncovered the Grand Mystical Truth of Everything, which is that all stories are completely derivative and just rip-offs of the one Ur-Story, chanted by workers who built the Tower of Babel, and from that point on, everybody else who has ever claimed to have come up with an original idea has just been an unoriginal, self-delusional hack.

There are plenty of things you can criticize Disney for, but honestly, the least of their problems is the fact that they once stole the plot from some obscure anime from like 1954 to make an episode of Goof Troop. Seriously, people. Get back to work.

Thank you for stating that. It needed to be said.

Can we enforce it with a boat oar to the head?

Surprise! Bubba Ho-Tep is, in fact, the actual original MYSTICAL UR-STORY, translated from it's original pre-tower-of-Babel language by our boy Bruce Campbell. That's why it may or may not look derivative of other stories. That, and the inevitable trouble Bruce had translating Babylonian or whatever. Klaatu . . .Varaata . . .Nic*coughcough*.

Being John Malkovich was derived -- distilled, actually -- from pomegranates.

Anyone who thinks that The Lion King was taken from Hamlet either hasn't read Hamlet, or didn't understand exactly what was going on.

Well, of course not. The Lion King was freely adapted from Strange Brew.

Well, many of us our hoping that the Hamlet/Lion King relationship will be cemented in Lion King 1-1/2 when Pumba opens the movie flipping coins and it is revealed that Scar hired them to keep Simba out of the kingdom.

Yes, and we also find out that Simba pretends to go insane when he finds out Scar is behind Mufasa's death (he poured a herd of wildebeast into his ear). When Timon asks Simba what he is eating, he says, "Bugs, bugs, bugs." Also, we find out that Nala goes insane and drowns in a lake.
