Enterprise Rent-A-Car (remember how I absolutely love their commercials?) also has incredibly cheesy hold music. Well, it's not so much the music that's cheesy as the voiceover that accompanies it.

"My name is Don, and I've been with Enterprise for thirty years. And I've watched this fleet grow from 20 cars to a hundredty-jillion."

Well, okay, he didn't say 'hundredty-jillion' but you get the point. The whole thing isn't that bad, but "Don" here doesn't sound a day over 27.

Also, I heard Don on Enterprise's hold music on Friday, and darned if he didn't have a completely different voice. I'm talking different accent, different cadence, and quite a professional baritone timbre to it all, instead of the "They pulled me out of the service bay to make me record this hold announcement" voice that I just heard.

Oh, that Don!

I used to be really irritated by an Amex commercial that had this guy talking about how still remembers hosting his first business dinner and not having enough available credit on his (presumably visa or mastercard) credit card to pay the bill. I was in my mid 20s when the commercial came out. The guy remembering back to his first business dinner sounded all of 20 to me. The part that amused me is that they later changed the voiceover, but the guy they hired this time still only sounded like he was in his mid 20s.

The worst ever was PalmOne support. I was calling for problems with my pda, and the hold music was... silence. There was nothing to elt me know I was still connected, except for every five minutes a recorded voice would assure me that my call was important, incidentally scaring the shit out of me.
