Well, it's spring again, and that means once more Lowell Street smells ... well, nobody's able to put their finger on exactly what it smells like, but we all agree it's rather raunchy.

O dogwood tree, O dogwood tree
Your flowers reek so flagrantly
From April til the end of May
You stink like something I can't say
O dogwood tree, O dogwood tree
Assaulting my olfactory

Additionally, the 90 bus shall forever after be known as Bartleby The Bus for its brilliant refusal to run at 1 today. The 1:30 bus driver said "Well, there just wasn't a 1:00 bus from Davis today." So apparently the 1:00 bus just chose not to run. Is this not some kind of wonderful world, when one must rely on a bus service that, on beautiful days, just up and chooses not to happen? I'm sure Bartleby had a great time lounging about the bus yards, taking in the sun, eating chocolates and getting a good whiff of the dogwoods.

Ah Bartleby! Ah humanity!

If we could only get the bus drivers to wear name tags that say "Barleby" on them.... :-)

And, yes, the smell of dying flowers is truly yucky.

Amen to that. Not that our spatch here needs any more cool points. He's monopolizing as it is. ;)

I get teased mercilessly for anthropomorphizing an internal organ (and a very important one at that) and now we have Bartleby the Bus?
Well, I see how this game is played...

Did you go to some sort of freakish nursery school where trees sang songs and vehicles smiled?

And have you ever seen a bus wear a cape</>?

Lucky you. *My* stongest nursery school memory is having to stay in from recess because I hadn't yet finished coloring in my paper squirrel. I really hated it there....

What may have happened is that the 1:00 bus broke down. Often in these cases when there's no way to get another bus out any sooner than the next bus is coming, they just cancel the run. It sucks, but there it is.

I call them the smelly sneaker trees. And I did notice that they're blooming. There are a few on the UMass campus. Not as many as the my-god-make-it-stop-maybe-I-can-amputate-my-nose cluster of them in Kendall Square. The smell reminds me of Kendall Square more than anything, because of this.

It's the 90. I don't think it even takes a nice day for it not to run. That's it's natural state. Instead, you should make delirious posts on those rare occasions when it actually comes by.

Hey! Dogwoods don't smell!

Well, they don't. I think your stinky tree is the one that I can't identify; does it have clusters of white blossoms? That tree is truly stinky.

I love dogwoods. I will not hear them defamed!
