Truuuuuuuue, I don't think you can drive 193 miles and not be in Canada. But maybe there are places like off in the mountains that aren't a stright shot where you could go 193 miles into New Hampster.
The Perkins I like the most in Pennsylvania is in, uh. Bloomsburg. It's like just off of I-80. And when you've been driving all night to get to Knoebels Amusement Park and you get off I-80 around 7 AM or so, lordy them eggs bennies is the tastiest thing in the world.
when you've been partying in washington all nite and don't have enough energy to make it all the way back home, they would let you sleep in their parking lot as long as you bought a class of lemonade.
I never had to go as far as Shamokin, though I did tend to hit the Perkins in Danville on the Sunday after each Phall Phun Phest, but of course I'd always hit the place right after the after-church crowds showed up.
A step up from Denny's when it comes to chain restaurants, really. Best enjoyed late-night or during the Brunching hour, and most of 'em have bakeries on the premises so you can get muffins the size of your head or french silk pie if you so desire. It's what Bickfords should have been if Bickfords had made the right decision and not gone "generic grill" and all.
The nearest Perkins is right next door to the nearest IHOP, and three or four buildings away from the nearest Shoney's. Pancake Alley, we'd call it if we didn't already call it something else.
That's one thing that living in the sprawl has going for it. I've got a perkins three exits north on I-4, about 10 miles away. We ate a late morning breakfast there three weeks ago.
OMG this friend of mine who's from Louisiana always talks about how her mom has worked at the Waffle House for 35 years or something, and as kids they always called it the Awful House.
The Waffle House is Perkins for people with no teeth.
Ok, maybe it's not all that bad. But you gotta be in a way different mindset to want to go to a Waffle House than the mindset you need for Perkins. I think it may involve Hank Williams, Jr but it's been so long I can't be certain.
Perkins has never made me slam the brakes on a rental car driving on an interstate in Jackson, Tennessee and scream, 'KEVIN, THERE'S THE WAFFLE HOUSE!'
I never had such a good time at a Perkins I left a fifteen dollar tip on a thirteen dollar check.

And for good reason. Kevin would've been extremely confused.
