They play that song on this day on all the radio stations in Houghton, MI. Also, for MTU Winter Carnival, it doesn't matter what the theme is, someone builds a Edmund Fitzgerald out of snow.

Had to cue it up on the iPod. I actually bought the whole album just to get that song, and subsequently discovered that I don't much care for Lightfoot's other stuff.

It's amazing how fast things go to hell in that song--in the space of about two measures, it goes from "You guys are gonna have to go hungry tonight" to "WE'RE ALL GONNA DIIIIE!"

And the cook's just so laconic about it. If anything, he seems more perturbed by the fact that dinner was a wash than by the fact that the ship's going down.
