The Ambassador Hotel, home of LA's hot Cocoanut Grove0 nightclub and the spot where Robert Kennedy was assassinated in 1968, has been demolished. The nightclub and coffeeshop will remain. Closed since 1989, the hotel land was seized by eminent domain to make way for a ginormous elementary school.

An interesting end to the property rich in history.

[0] Not the same notorious Cocoanut Grove nightclub of the Cocoanut Grove Fire fame; that one was in Boston.

The safe house in Seattle to which his family was removed immediately after the shooting is, however, in the process of being remodeled by a private owner.

I never thought I'd be able to work that factoid into a conversation.

According to the Wikipedia article on the Cocoanut Grove Fire, the Boston Licensing Board has ruled that no Boston establishment may again call itself the Cocoanut Grove.

The fact that they had to pass a law like that does something to my faith in humanity.
