The cat would also have had to cross railroad tracks somehow -- either on a bridge, or through the Sacramento Street pedestrian tunnel, or at grade.

May it be a brief one that ends with Abbie back safe 'n sound.

Maybe he went on a expedition to find the Patriots offensive line. I hope he returns, safe and sound.

Hang in there. Lost indoor cat is always upsetting but in my own (TENSE) experience, the cat does know where his food comes from and will return to the scene of the crime in fairly short order. It just doesn't feel so short because it's fraught with worry.

Hope it turns out well! I can't think of a really apt man-to-man cliche of support, but imagine that I did and that's what I'm typing here: ________________________________________________!

I've had an outdoor cat get outside only to be found cowering in a neighbor's backyard. The same cat also once hid indoors for the better part of 24 hours, and didn't come out even when we shook a bag of kitty treats. We have no idea what he was doing, but he showed up before bed looking for his dinner.

That's the usual mode of indoor cats who get out, or stuck. Folks are surprised at how close to home a lost cat is usually found.

*nod* A big outdoor cat busted down a screen window (we know she did it from outside, because it was forced inwards, not out) and he chased her through several backyards. There were tufts of fur from both of them all over the place, and he was sitting there looking bravely confused.
