Just saw this week's Doctor Who and you know, the episode was decent, all things considered, it had its moments, had some instances of human beings actually acting human, didn't feature any gratutitous kissing (at least, not involving Ten)...
...and then I saw the previews for next week before turning it off.
Oh god.
Oh god.
OHJOHN RINGO GOD NO.
I don't believe I've hollered "WHAT?! WHAT?! WHAT?! NO!!" at my televised media display screen before with quite the fervor as I just did, and that includes the response to the concrete slab-fucker scene from a few seasons ago.
There's only one way this little premise could work and if what we see next week is not that way, I fear next week I will be hollering "RUSSELL T. DAVIES YOU ARE DEAD TO ME, DO YOU HEAR ME? OOPS NO, YOU CAN'T, BECAUSE YOU ARE DEAD TO ME."
Sigh.

Date: 2008-05-04 02:04 pm (UTC)I never delved into the Lungbarrow stuff. I have no qualms with the Doctor actually having a family (and he's talked about it, in whatever vague terms, recently.) The Doctor having Time Lord procreative activity some time in the series' past is not quibblicious. The Doctor going round boffing females from other species simply because OMG A MAN AND A WOMAN IN TARDIS MUST MEAN SEXUAL TENSION WHICH HAS TO BE RESOLVED is most quibblicious and incredibly irksome. In other words, you don't Do It for the sake of It being done unless you're on Torchwood.
Sexual relations are implied by offspring, sure... oh, wait, this is Rusty we're talking about, isn't it? He'll be about as subtle as a goddamn bulldozer with it. Argh.
I'm REALLY hoping it really is Susan's mom. I'm REALLY hoping it's not going to be a fake-out, a cop-out, a false memory ("...not a dream, a twin sister, or an indestructible robot") or a re-creation of Gallifrey built entirely by nanobots (sup Red Dwarf.) That kind of shit is the worst kind of shit.
I am hoping beyond hope, here, and even justifying: given that the Doctor regenerates into younger and younger-looking folks (and that women Time Lords can, as Romana showed us, pick their look) it wouldn't be a surprise to see his daughter doing the same. That she's gone all Catherine Zeta-Jones Entrapment on us and leaping like nimble minx through the Laser Beams of Pure Cliche has nothing to do with it.
It would be very nice to actually get more information on the Doctor's former family without it turning into a fake or a lovechild from Leela or Nyssa or something equally STUPID AND DUMB AND STUPID.
I'm now trying to scour the continuity trough here and see if there was any spoken amendment to Face of Boe's "You are not alone" which turned it into "You are not alone but that just means there'll be only one other guy and by the way he'll be your eternal nemesis and you'll kill him only you'll actually just be putting him in a coma and he'll wake up in 1973 oops wait wrong show."
I'm scared, man. I don't wanna be wrong about this because I can't see any other way this would work out well.

Date: 2008-05-05 02:51 pm (UTC)I'm a bad Whovian, so I was all "his daughter"?
Which then led my wife into a monologue about how he was originally travelling with his granddaughter in the first series, and a short viewing of the original (?) Dalek episode where he stole her shoes.

Date: 2008-05-06 01:46 pm (UTC)Course not. However, I did think the eighth season was the weakest one (apart from Rimmer kicking Death in the goolies.) Then again I'm a fan of the first few seasons and well aware the show's tone has changed over time, so it's not the same show, but still.
Anyway.
