Cool Fallout 3 Moment #791
Nov. 11th, 2008 11:17 pm#791. Activating a radio transmitter and listening to the automated station constantly CQ.
(CQ is the ham equivalent of "Are you there,God anyone? It's me, Margaret.")

Date: 2008-11-12 02:42 pm (UTC)What amazes me are the stories that you have shown to you (as opposed to being told.) Sure, there's a fair share of abandoned buildings where you pick up expository holotapes and follow a breadcrumb trail around the narrative, but for every one of those there's a house or a shelter where the story is entirely told by the objects and the setting. (There's one house where two skeletons are lying on the bed in the master bedroom with Med-X syringes scattered about. A child's skeleton can be found outside in the yard by a tricycle. The mailbox contains a Vault-Tec letter informing the family that their application was rejected. You get to create the narrative yourself.)
However, it seems to me the stations ought to serve a deeper purpose than just having a small stash nearby. I may do some triangulation when I next play. See if there's something pleasant waiting for me there. Don't spoil it, now; the exploration is half the fun anyway.

Date: 2008-11-12 07:56 pm (UTC)The level cap is a bother but grabbing all the level 20 perks would've been overkill, really.
And main story-wise, I'm right at the last mission. I'm not going in. I'm not going in until I've collected all bobbleheads (without a game guide), I'm not going in until I've explored every inch of this rich game world, and I'm not going in until I'm Damn Good And Ready.
Well, okay, maybe I'll take another backup save and run the last mission just to see what ending I'd get, but I'm totally going to continue existing in this world.

Date: 2008-11-12 08:19 pm (UTC)The first time, I took Grim Reaper at 20, and had a lot of fun with that. Energy Weapons 100 plus Plasma Rifle, and I was essentially one-shot headcapping Enclaves and Supermutants most of the time.
I would say, get the ending out of your system, and then get back to whats important...exploring :)

Date: 2008-11-12 06:01 pm (UTC)I really want to know what the story is for the ghoul in the sewer wearing the party hat. Every time I see him he's hostile and opens fire. I JUST WANT TO BE FRIENDS!
Also, somehow I appear to have two Dogmeats. Not that I am complaining, it's just weird.

Date: 2008-11-12 08:21 pm (UTC)This can mean only one of two things:
1) Dogmeat is a hideous demon who is only able to remain corporeal with blood sacrifices
2) Dogmeat went to go bury Yao Guai bones in the back of the town and then came back, and I just killed everyone for naught. Well, naught and a whole bunch of caps and shop goodies, and the title "Scourge of Humanity" *heh*

Date: 2008-11-12 10:21 pm (UTC)Did you also find the makeshift shelter bunker somewhere near Chevy Chase/Friendship Heights? Inside lived a fellow who developed a disturbingly unnatural obsession with toilet plungers (as well as a real nice balancing act, physics engine-wise, right inside the entrance.)

Hubris Comics has an angry fanboy with a minigun AND a terminal with a complete (though short) text adventure in it.
