In my experience, the notion that cats always want to be on the other side of doors is often a human misconception. Cats often are exactly where they want to be. They simply require that the door be open, because a door in any other state is inherently offensive to them.

We just got a new cat (who makes number four in our house) who is about a year old and seems to have always been a stray based on the reports of the people who brought her in and based on her not really being familiar with how a house works.

She's really sweet and fun, but doors CONFUSE THE FUCK OUT OF HER.
