Wait, what? More on-show romance? I THOUGHT WE WERE DONE WITH ALL THAT.

Ah, I saw that and you're right, an announcement about "sparks flying" between them is just a matter of time. The only thing I thought when I saw her and mentally put her next to Matt Smith was that I'm now officially too damned old for Buffy in Space.

"A generation of little girls will want to be her. And a generation of little boys will want them to be her too." - Stephen Moffatt.

As a feminist, I would like to say that I want to set him on fucking fire right about now. Just fucking stop stop stop stop stop. Jesus FUCKING COCK!

I've wanted to set him on fire for a bit now. This just gives me a little more incentive to buy the gasoline.

I am loathe to point this out... but he has had several love interests. One must assume that, since he had a granddaughter, he had at least one child, which means at least some kind of non-platonic fling took place back on Gallifrey. Thought it wasn't explicit, I do feel some sort of romantic relationship with Romana was going on with Four. Eight was ten types of touchy-feely with Grace, and later admitted that he was in love with Charley Pollard before they parted ways. Nine/Ten WERE in love with Rose Tyler, so...

...I hope we can still be friends.

Seriously, though, I think the romantic element of the show has gotten out of hand. I liked that he rejected Martha, and I liked that Donna did not fall head over heels for him. The Rose Tyler thing was a beautiful fairytale, but I'm glad it's over.

I have said for a while (although no one listens to me) that if they want to pull this romance thing, they need to wrap up the whole "River Song" bit before they're at 13 and have no more regenerations to play around with. And if River Song would end up not being human, that would be super, too.

Besides, normal sexual beings in our world don't necessarily have massive romantic tension and puppy-dog eyes with everyone they associate with on a regular basis.

You gotta admit that "I'm the last of my kind" can be a devastatingly effective pick-up line on the right person. I don't know if there's a holodeck equivalent of 10-Forward somewhere in the bowels of the TARDIS, but I'll bet some bars of gold-pressed latinum that the Doctor has been practicing his lines in there before he picks up an easy Earth woman.

When I saw the new Doctor I thought they were tapping into a sort of Jonas Brothers vibe with their choice, so maybe he'll wear a purity ring and nothing will happen.

The only thing is, I REALLY want to see the plot where the hot young Doctor and his companion fall in love with each other, and then he regenerates into someone old and crusty and doesn't see why anything should change.

I read this originally as meaning something like "The doctor does not need love interests or people...."

When you put DOCTOR WHO in all caps, it makes the grammar look funky.

I was just discussing how it would be much less demeaning to women to have a more Batman & Robin (not the movie, the concept. The platonic concept too, in both senses of the term) -style dynamic, as it places the companion in less of an 'opposite and foil' role and more of an apprentice one. It seems that with a lady companion, writers just fall into the whole "she's everything the doctor's not! Stupid, ruled by emotion, slow to react! Ha-haa!" trap far too often. I guess Martha's the closest to a real apprentice-style companion that there's been, which is cool at least, but... must it be so rare?
