I feel your pain. I didn't get to sleep "last night" until almost 9 a.m., but I forced myself to be awake by 12:30 hoping the 3 hours of sleep will help me get to bed tonight. With a recital coming up on Saturday, this is not the best time to be sleep-deprived.
I was up all night from Sunday to Monday. If I got any kind of rest, it was in 5-10 minute bursts. I thought well okay, I'll go to work, be lucid, then come home and crash for 12+ hours.
I got home at 5 PM, went to bed, and didn't actually get to sleep til way past midnight. My body just refused to let go, even though I'd been up for 25-30 hours and I was in that lucid-ass state.
This will not help your insomnia, but you're the only person I know who would get it, and it might cheer you up.
In the shower earlier, I had a sudden, entertainingly anachronistic idea: a parody of Star Wars by the cast of the Jack Benny Program. With Jack as Ham ("That's Han! Han!") Solo, Rochester as Chewbacca, Dennis Day as Dennis O'Skywalker, Mary as Princess Leia, Phil Harris as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Don Wilson as C-3PO, Mel Blanc as R2-D2, and of course Fred Allen as Darth Vader. Naturally, there would also have to be at least one "Kitzel Run" joke...
Okay, that's inspired and really hilarious to boot. Throw in a guest appearance by Andy Devine either as Greedo or Jabba the Hutt and I think we're on to something here.
With the Maxwellium Falcon, and Frank Nelson as all of the stormtroopers.

I realize the rain makes this a bit daunting but...get out for a walk. Seriously. Or come walk wiht me. We can get all waterproof and walk in the rain. The exercise part really helps with the sleeping parts.
