Not sure why I didn't see this one go round the first time out, but here's a (really really crummy watermarked version; sorry, couldn't find the clip anywhere else w/o resorting to Hulu) clip of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's recent appearance on Saturday Night Live where, for his monologue, he performs Make 'Em Laugh from Singin' in the Rain.

Did I mention he gives it the full-on Donald O'Connor treatment?

Yes, with that part.
Oh and yes, with that part too.

And you can tell he is about the happiest fella ever by the end of the number. As well as the most exhausted. Given the nature of live TV and the backstage hustling, I sure hope he had a few moments to catch his breath before his next sketch.

Oh and yes, with that part too.

I am duly impressed.

I LOVE Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He's right up there with Neil Patrick Harris for me. Been fans of both since I (and they) were kids.

Wow, that's really impressive. And he's THIRTY?! Holy cow! I'm getting so old. Still, loads of energy, that's fantastic.

That is awesome. It's the only thing on SNL worth watching in ages.

I was surprised at how good that was. I assumed he'd do the bit at the end. I was missing the sofa, tho.

I keep expecting him to look just the same as he did in "10 things I hate about you" so it's like seeing someone who looks kinda familiar but you can't place them.

Reminds me I still haven't seen "Brick" yet either.

I had the same reaction to his appearance; then I did the math and remembered that 10TIHAY was a decade ago! Yikes.

Son of a bitch. Leaving out Bobby Moynihan, that was actually pretty good.

MadTV got cancelled.

Not that there's much difference between it and SNL for the last, oh, fifteen years.

*SQUEE* How very awesome. He is manifestly having the time of his life. So cute.

(And now I really want to see JGL and NPH do musicals together. Oh, hey, it's ten whole years since On The Town was on Broadway...wonder if JGL can actually sing well enough to do Gene Kelly's part in that one.)

Bah, not only is the YouTube link down, but "due to music clearance issues" the monologue isn't on Hulu :(

He directed an awesome short, "Sparks", which I just saw on Wholphin #9.

I actually think the current SNL cast is one of the better ones they've had in a long time. I DVR the shows. I usually watch all the way through weekend update and then hit selected skits in the second half of the show. I usually judge the show by that first half. I've got to say that this episode was one of the best of the season. I think JGL was just thrilled to be on SNL and it showed all the way through his performances.
