Question: Where's the worst place to get a paper cut?
Question, Qualifier: I mean, above the waist*?

Answer: The little fleshy part between your thumb and index finger. Ow.

Question, Rhetorical: How can something so superficial be such a pain?

Fetch forth the Bactine, Prudence! Or a Band-Aid at the very least.

Once in high school we were riding in the car and passing a sheet of paper from the back seat to the front seat and a friend of mine got a paper cut on his eyeball.

Nowhere near as bad, but the philtrum is also an unpleasant place to get one. (Don't ask how, really.)

Did it involve an artificial mustache?

I'd imagine that it probably hurts a LOT worse to begin with, but since you don't flex your eyeball much it probably doesn't hurt for as long.

I had Radial Keratonomy (warning, Wikipedia entry involves gruesome injuries) done on one eye when I was in college and on my parent's health plan (which, for some reason, covered it)--I don't remember anything being particularly painful after the anesthesia wore off. I imagine it would have hurt like a mother during the surgery without whatever they use to deaden it, however. And the Valium.

I did that the other day! ack. 'cept I kind of tore at the skin with the edge of one of those name-letter stickers that gets folded over the end of the patient's chart/file/thingie. The corners on the folded stickers are really sharp and as I pushed a file into the filing shelves, it tore through the skin right between my thumb and index finger. Bad enough that I get paper cuts from all the paper I handle (letters, patient info, photocopying), but the damn stickers... argh.

At least as a Dermatologist's office, we have lots of band-aids around! and Bacitracin.

Quickest way to count up just how many papercuts you receive in the course of duty: go to the kitchen, make some tea and squeeze half a lemon in.

You will find them ALL.

Ah yes.

I found that sweet potato while making Thanksgiving preparations, but it was [livejournal.com profile] tansu that gave it its name.

Actually, I also dispute the location thing. I have one under my thumbnail right now and it hurts way worse than the time that I sliced open the spot between my thumb and index finger (still have the scar from that one, though.)

no one else did...

I don't see you guys rating the kind of mate I'm contemplating.
I'd let you watch, I would invite you
But the queens we use would not excite you

I was gonna say,

Not much is known
Of how this superficial injury could cause so much distress
Unless one looks to useful models: sensory homonculus's giant hands.
