The final nails in the coffin

NBC announced today it's cancelling Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. I'm guessing the last few episodes will run at the end of this month.

It was a very flawed show, indeed, but it had its good moments.

They got the news early Friday that Crossing Jordan got the axe; the sets came down this morning.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that we can go into the CSI sets for our VIP visits. :V

Illustrating the difficulties in introducing new comedies, NBC said it will have only one new sitcom next season -- and it didn't even earn a spot on the fall schedule. "The IT Crowd" is about a group of people who work in technical services at a large corporation.

Be prepared for more difficulties; the British sitcom this is based off of is about as funny as Slashdot on April Fools' Day.

Best Case Scenario, And Least Likely: Series becomes like the US Office and far exceeds expectations, successfully taking off on its own creative orbit when the writers realize they're not anchored to the BBC series characters and situations.

Worst Case Scenario, And Most Likely: Series writers have a field day when they realize they can just use the British scripts and just change words like "lift" into "elevator" and take the extraenous U out of other words. Series tanks as well it should.

Whoah what hang on are you serious? One of the three possibilities must be real, but which? (1) I'm very much mistaken and Slashdot is a laugh hoot riot on the first of April; (2) You maybe only saw the one episode of that show where whatserface was supposed to have PMS; or (3) having watched all six episodes, you genuinely did not think [i]The IT Crowd[/i] was funny.

I can't imagine that 3 is actually the case. It baffles me! I am the world's least appreciative audience for nerd humour. I am a tough sell. I thought that show was legitimately hilarious. What's going on here?

Watched all 6. Liked the concept just fine, thought the surreal basement setting was good, but the jokes were terrible and the situations awful (what was that bit about the shit on one's head? seriously?)

The one funny moment I did enjoy was the by-the-numbers programmer encountering the office on fire, so to save himself he immediately sits down and fires off an email for help to the Facilities dept. That was geniunely funny. The over-crazy boss was funny at times, too. But overall, I felt as if it tried too hard and accomplished too little. It's a major feat to get a mainstream audience to like the arrogant IT guy who routinely signs "Did you try turning it off and on?" as the first answer to every question. I don't think they pulled that one off very well. Other IT folks may, but then again, they're the ones who probably still think the CD tray-cupholder story is a good one.

Hm. I did forget about the head-pudding. Still I thought it took a bit of charm to sell "That bit on the floor there..." "The hard disk?" "Correct!" as being better than the usual cupholder type joke show. At least, they convinced me. At least, I remember liking Richard Ayoade's character a right some lot.

I don't know, I feel confused, I have to sit down.

I thought the pilot was okay as pilots go, and the fire episode was better than your average sitcom fare (I especially liked the screen-saver bit), but otherwise, meh.
