Maybe it was that I was prepared for it, but that particular casting choice bothered me much less than it did most of the critics. Although I would have savaged that plot if it came across my desk as a novel, I found the whole thing kind of charming. I hope you wrote this with the intent of pointing out that it's how Mr. M. started his love of storytelling and filmmaking. Seriously. Him and some friends making movies with Dad's Super8.
