I dunno, I can pick out the smell of an electrical short pretty well not to mention the smoke wafting off a slowly burning fuse. If only someone TOLD me to just say something when I smell it.

My personal experience with that was "See Something, Say Something, Get the Hell Off the Train Because a Moron Might Get You Killed"

I was riding one of the last trains into Alewife from Harvard Square and had the car pretty much to myself. This was at the height of the T paranoia; bag searches, cops in the station, etc. I noticed there was a cardboard box wedged under the seat across the aisle so when a T cop boarded the train at the next stop, I pointed it out.

Cop: *grunts*

*looks at box*

*kicks box with toe of boot*

*grunts*

*wanders off*

Um...yeah. The best security training money can buy right there...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who expects to hear "your eyes, your ears, and your nose." Think how many calls they'd get from North Station alone! (Ah, the lovely rotten-egg smell of North Station...)
